"We used to go to gablehouse, we used to go to mulligans, we used to go to laser tag," reads the homepage of Promenade PV. "We grew up here with things to do and places to play; but where will our kids go now?"
The page reads like a list of what the mall plans to rebuild, and a few lines further down it gets more specific. It recalls trick-or-treating at the mall at night, going store to store for candy, and a haunted house with a White Rabbit leading visitors through a wonderland maze.
This Saturday, October 31, the mall at 550 Deep Valley Drive in Rolling Hills Estates brings both of those back. The Halloween event is the most visible step so far, and the businesses that opened before it show how the mall got here.
A Mall That Wrote Down What Was Missing
The building opened in 1981 as the enclosed Courtyard Mall, with Bullock's Wilshire and the May Company as anchors. It sold in December 2022, and the new ownership has since moved the property away from traditional apparel retail and toward entertainment.
The homepage puts the goal in plain terms. It calls for "a friendly neighborhood mall that brings back the charm of mom-and-pops," a place to "meet, talk, eat and play," and it closes with a line addressed "to all who remember the courtyard mall."
So the Halloween weekend is more than a seasonal promotion. It's the mall bringing back the exact memory it said it would bring back, and you can trace how it got there by looking at what opened first.
Halloween Weekend, Day by Day
According to the Palos Verdes Magazine event listing, the Promenade | PV Halloween Trick or Treat Event and Costume Contest runs Saturday, October 31, from 3 to 6 p.m. The magazine lists it as free.
The listing spreads the event across three days:
- Friday night, October 30: carnival rides open.
- Saturday, October 31: carnival rides all day, plus trick-or-treating from 3 to 6 p.m. with a costume contest, haunted house, face painting, games, food and cotton candy.
- Sunday, November 1: carnival rides all day.
The organizers' invitation is short: "Bring the costumes, bring the candy buckets, bring the whole family!" They say updates will be posted on the Promenade's Instagram, so check there before you go in case anything changes during the week.
The haunted house matters most here. It's the one item on the 2026 flyer that matches a specific memory the mall's homepage describes. The other half of that memory, a mall worth walking for an evening, depends on the businesses that have opened on the property since the sale.
How the Lower Level Filled Up
The Halloween crowd will walk past a group of recreation businesses that line up closely with the things the mall's homepage says the Hill lost.
- ZenesisX Gaming Lounge, Suite 139. The Daily Breeze reported in August 2025 that the 9,000-square-foot lounge had just held its grand-opening weekend. It has VR rides and stations, racing simulators, consoles and gaming PCs, which makes it the closest current match to the laser-tag memory on the homepage.
- Level Up Bowl & Bistro, Suite 118. The Pen Newspaper reported that Level Up opened December 22, 2025, with 14 lanes, four of them VIP, plus an arcade, a bar, a restaurant and party rooms. Staffer Mandy Rodriguez told The Pen she hoped it would "bring new energy to the area." Bowling is on the homepage's list of things locals used to do.
- The Sports Complex. Its Palos Verdes page advertises sports-performance training, baseball and softball cages, indoor soccer, hockey, lacrosse, indoor golf and parties.
Two more tenants round out the group. LA Kings Ice, in Suite 107, offers public skating, learn-to-skate, hockey and camps. The Regal Promenade is the 13-screen theater the Daily Breeze described as already in place in 2025.
The suite numbers show the plan. Bowling, gaming, skating and the youth sports tenants all sit in the 100 series, and Hoodline describes the stretch around Level Up and The Sports Complex as the mall's lower level. That puts the activities that keep a family at the mall for an afternoon close together.
The mall's Fun & Activities directory also lists Golf Theory, Kiddleton Claw Machine Zone, The Lab Basketball Academy, Urban Youth Park and American Legacy Karate. The directory has no date, so call ahead before planning a visit around any single one of them.
Where People Eat Between Games
The second word in the homepage's "Good Food and Lots of Fun" depends on the dining roster.
The best-known name is SUGO Social in Suite 265. It's a New American restaurant with Korean influences, and WhatNow reports it opened in 2025. It took over the former Luna Rossa space after a full redesign.
The current food directory lists:
- Sit-down and savory: Pho Redbo, Terra Mia, El Pollo Inka, Fuego Cravings, Asian Bites, Good Stuff
- Burgers: Dilly D's Delicious Burgers, which WhatNow named as a recent addition along with Asian Bites
- Sweets and drinks: Fika Fika Creamery, Nara Boba, Mochinut, misc.coffee
Three more are listed as coming soon: Kickin' Kolaches, Soup 'N Fresh and Riiya Noodle House.
On Halloween weekend, the dessert counters are likely to matter most. The carnival rides keep families on site across Friday night, Saturday and Sunday, so people will be looking for a snack between rides.
The Biggest Suite Is Still Behind the Sign
The space that would finish the homepage's wish list is still empty. Mega Looma Epic Adventure Park is listed in Suite 116, between Level Up Bowl & Bistro and The Sports Complex. The mall's directory still marks it "COMING SOON," and the Mega Looma website says "Coming Soon 2026" without a date.
The plans are large. In August 2026, WhatNow reported that entrepreneur Gloria Lee was planning a 35,000-square-foot park with arcade games, bumper cars, trampolines, karaoke, a photobooth and private party rooms. The site's tagline calls it "a place to imagine and play." Lee also owns SUGO Social and Looma Space, an indoor play space in Lomita.
Put that list next to the homepage's question about where the kids will go, and Mega Looma looks like the most direct answer the mall has planned. Its owner already has two connections to the property, one restaurant at the mall and a play space nearby, so this would be a third. With no announced opening date, the indoor play piece of the plan is still a future item on the Promenade's calendar.
Across Rolling Hills Estates, Peninsula Shopping Center has its own fall opening to watch. Canaan Chinese Cuisine, next to MOD Pizza, was set to open Wednesday, October 28. The center says it focuses on traditional Chinese food made with fresh ingredients.
